How to get the Right 5 Lug Hub or Rim for your Trailer

Apr. 14 2025 Miscellaneous By Rodoc

If you are looking to replace a damaged rim or trailer hub you'll first need to know how many lugs your wheel is. These typically come in 5,6, or 8 lugs. A 5 lug trailer is usually on a 2K-3.5K axle, a 6 lug hub is typically for a 4.4K to 5.2K axle and an 8 lug is for a 6k and larger. Unlike the 6 lug and 8 lug trailer hubs the 5 lug hub isn't universal and comes in 4 different sizes. This could be tricky if you're not in the trailer world and just go to a Walmart and pick out a 5 lug spare and then when you have to use it it doesn't work. It's important to call a professional or know how to measure your rim to get the correct parts

Common 5-Lug Bolt Patterns (in inches):

  • 5 on 4.5" (most common for trailers)

  • 5 on 4.75"

  • 5 on 5"

  • 5 on 5.5"
